Slow Down
It is hard to imagine living in a world without textiles. Nearly everyone, everywhere comes into contact with them daily. That is why we at DAS WERK HAUS like to take ownership of the textile we use.
The way we design, produce, and use clothing have a direct impact on the environment. The textiles industry operates in an almost completely linear way: large amounts of non-renewable resources are extracted to produce clothes that are often used for only a short time, after which the materials are mostly sent to landfill or incinerated. To put that into perspective; the massive environmental impact of ‘fast fashion’ and the textile industry as a whole is greater than all international flights combined.
It’s about time to disrupt this system!
Determined not to add to the problem - The team at DAS WERK HAUS source a variety of vintage and new high quality textiles from all over the world. Without requesting that more is made, we use the ample rolls that are available to us. We even use end-of-the-roll fabrics that others would discard as waste. Using every bit of fabric, we celebrate the imperfections which result in a completely unique garment at finish.
Because of this philosophy DAS WERK HAUS items may vary in color and print from item to item, and once a fabric is finished, you will not see it again.
Clothes to us provide an expression of individuality, but also an ideology.
The Japanese have a word for it - Wabi Sabi. Wabi sabi ("wah-bi sah-bi") is a captivating concept from Japanese aesthetics, which helps us to see beauty in imperfection, appreciate simplicity and accept the transient nature of all things.
We believe that a circular textile economy is the future. In a new textiles economy where clothes, textiles, and fibres are kept at their highest value during use and re-enter the economy afterwards, never ending up as waste.
A new textiles economy presents an opportunity to deliver substantially better economic, societal, and environmental outcomes. Respecting people, animals & the environment. it’s time to slow down and cherish what is already there.
